Community Relations
Every neighborhood must be treated with respect. As the managing entity of the Port of Houston Authority's Dredge Disposal sites, J. Simmons Group regularly seeks input from residents, City Officials and Civic Associations in neighborhoods affected by our work. JSG provides updates to affected communities about proposed projects as well as projects already under way. We strive for a minimum of noise and inconvenience to surrounding residential areas during our inspection and construction activities.
What's the vision of the Community Relations Department?
Our vision is to develop close working relationships with the local community leaders and residents as a means of maintaining a clean, safe, and healthy environment for you; your children; and for generations come.
How will we accomplish this goal?
Communication is the key. Positive and strong relationships allows JSG the ability to keep community leaders and residents informed of potential dredge site activities. By utilizing the most efficient dredged material management techniques to clear, upgrade and enhance the Port of Houston Authority Dredge sites. We're confident that you'll see a difference--and it's a difference you'll be proud of.
What can we expect, how will this affect my household?
First, we will clear all vegetation from within the site. This activity helps to reduce insects, rodents, and pests. Clearing the site also helps to alleviate illegal dumping and loitering, which has historically affected these sites.
Once the site is cleared, we work within the site to enhance drainage and strengthen levees. This activity helps to provide long-term safety for roads, bridges, and residents. During construction JSG is quiet, yet efficient. Most of our construction is away from residential areas, and we limit our heavy equipment operation to normal business hours whenever possible.
Finally, to provide high quality material handling while maximizing site utilization, JSG, the Port Authority, and the Army Corp of Engineers will ultimately increase the height of the levees. Again we are quiet, expedient yet efficient in this task.
What happens after the site is complete, will it be ignored?
The Port Authority and JSG are committed for the long term. We will manage, maintain, and patrol these sites including: cutting grass in and around the site, controlling vegetation, and maintaining levees. In short, we will continue to upgrade and enhance the effectiveness of these facilities.
